Principal Investigator

Embryonic Stem Cell Biology: As director of the University of Calgary’s Embryonic Stem Cell (ESC) Facility, my research spans the development of animal models via targeted mutagenesis, the expansion of embryonic stem cells in suspension bioreactors and the differentiation of ESC into a variety of lineages including bone-producing osteoblasts and cartilage-producing chondrocytes. Together with members of the McCaig Institutes we are transplanting these cells into animal injury models. Recently we have parlayed our expertise toward human embryonic stem cells and induced pluripotent stem cells.
